Breaking the news from Krakow, Poland Record-Breaking Pizza in Krakow: 1,100 Meters of Slow Fast Food. The biggest pizza ever has been baked - and next duly eaten - in Krakow, on the city's vast Blonia common. Apart from other ingredients, such as sausages and vegetables, it consisted of four tons of flour, 1,500 liters of tomato sauce, and 1,600 kilograms of mozzarella. On August 29, 2010 all those components produced the record pizza that was 1.1 kilometer long and about one meter wide. Watched by crowds of inquisitive onlookers, the one-piece pizza strip rested on a makeshift table while a purpose-built moveable electric oven baked it inch by inch, from end to end. Obviously Krakow's 450 cooks prepared the monster with the Guinness Book of Records in mind. And a Guinness representative ascertained the pizza record was broken in Krakow. Previously the record had been set in Italy’s town of Massa in Tuscany where 405-meter-long pizza had been baked in 2007. It took about eighteen hours to prepare Krakow’s record-breaking pizza. The cooks began work on it at two a.m. Around 8 p.m. on the Sunday evening the last inch of the giant pizza was baked and the whole was distributed among spectators.
