and Categories of Hotels in Krakow
Practically
each Krakow hotel falls into one of five categories indicated by
stars, from one-star basic hotel services to five-star luxuries.
Poland’s law sets down quite precisely minimum requirements for
hotels awarded one, two, three, four or five stars. Besides,
regardless of the category, all hotel rooms have to be equipped with a
table or a desk, a bedside table, a bed lamp, a chair, a mirror,
window curtains, and a wardrobe with at least three hangers for every
guest. Also central heating is a must as well as hot and cold water
day and night. Every hotel should enable its customers to make phone calls
and send faxes, to deposit their valuables in a safe, and to use left
luggage facilities. All hotels serve breakfasts, and hot drinks must be
available on the premises in every hotel 24/7.
The
minimum size of a single bed is two meters for 0.9 meter, while a
double bed has to be a least two meters long and 1.4 m wide.
One-star
hotels
Floor
area of a standard double room is at least ten square meters.
Furnishings must include a table or a desk, a bedside table, a bed
lamp, a chair, a mirror, window curtains, and a wardrobe with at least
three hangers for every guest.
Two-star
hotels
Minimum
floor area of a standard double room is twelve square meters.
Furnishings must include a table or a desk with a table lamp, a
bedside table, a bed lamp, a chair, a mirror, window curtains, a
wardrobe with at least three hangers for every guest, and a luggage
rack.
The
two-star hotels in Krakow (and anywhere in Poland) should have a
cafeteria or other eatery on the premises.
Three-star
hotels
Floor
area of a standard double room is minimum fourteen square meters.
Furnishings must include a table or a desk with a table lamp, a
bedside table, a bed lamp, a chair, a phone, a TV set, a mirror,
window curtains, a wardrobe with at least three hangers for every
guest, a luggage rack, drinking glasses, a set of clothes brushes and
shoe brushes, a needle case.
Every
three-star hotel has to provide room service at least for twelve hours
per day. It must have a restaurant on the premises unless there is
some other in a 200-meters radius.
Four-star
hotels
Floor
area of a standard double room is at least sixteen square meters.
Furnishings must include a table or a desk with a table lamp, a
bedside table, a bed lamp, a chair, a phone, a TV set, a mirror,
window curtains, a wardrobe with at least three hangers for every
guest, a luggage rack, a hairdryer, drinking glasses, a set of clothes
brushes and shoe brushes, a needle case. Each room has a coffee table
plus armchairs and/or sofa. Bathrooms have to be equipped with a
hairdryer. Suites consist of a 25-sq-meter or larger lounge, a bedroom
with an adjoining bathroom, an antechamber and a separate lavatory.
The
hotel has to provide room service day and night and contain a
restaurant on the premises.
Every
four-star hotel in Krakow boasts health and fitness facilities
including any two or more of the following: a swimming pool, a sauna,
a gym, a solarium, a massage parlor.
Air
conditioning should keep temperatures in the range between 18 and 21
degrees Celsius and humidity between 45 percent and 60 percent in
public areas such as lobbies, restaurants, etc.
The
hotel personnel should be uniformed.
Five-star
hotels
Floor
area of a standard double room is eighteen square meters or more.
Furnishings must include a table or a desk with a table lamp, a
bedside table, a bed lamp, a chair, a phone, a TV set, a safe, a
minibar, a mirror, window curtains, a wardrobe with at least three
hangers for every guest, a luggage rack, drinking glasses, a set of
clothes brushes and shoe brushes, a needle case. Every room has a
coffee table as well as armchairs and/or sofa. Bathrooms have to be
equipped with a hairdryer, scales, a phone, and a dressing gown.
Suites consist of a minimum 25-sq-meter lounge, a bedroom with an
adjoining bathroom, a separate lavatory and an antechamber.
The
hotel has to provide room service day and night.
Air
conditioning should keep temperatures in the range between 18 and 21
degrees Celsius and humidity between 45 percent and 60 percent in all
rooms as well as lobbies, restaurants, and other public areas.
The
hotel personnel should wear uniforms.
Laundry
Krakow’s
three-star, four-star, and five-star hotels are to provide paid
washing services, i.e. collect bags with their guests’ laundry,
including underwear, and return it clean and ironed.
Linen
Poland’s
four-star and five-star hotels have to change bedclothes and towels
every day or on request. Other hotels should do it at least every
third day or on request. .
Elevators
Five-star
hotels of two stories or higher must have lifts. Four-star hotels
should have elevators when there are three or more stories. Three-star
hotels don’t necessary need elevators as long as they are less than
four stories high. Two-star and one-star hotels are required to
install lifts if they have five stories or more.
Internet
access
All
three-star, four-star, and five-star hotels in Krakow should provide
access to the Internet, either in guest rooms or someplace in the
public area.
Car
parking
Krakow’s
three-star, four-star, and five-star hotels situated in detached
buildings should have guarded car parks for the convenience of their
guests.
Note:
The above requirements are just minimum qualifying factors for
Poland’s five official hotel categories and most hotels in Krakow
provide significantly more than the prescribed standard.
Exceptions
Hotels
situated in old buildings listed as the country’s heritage, and
Krakow can boast hundreds of such national treasures of which some
have been turned into hotels, may get a waiver of some requirements
that are incompatible with their architecture.
