International Sea Song Festival Shanties, festival of sailor songs in Krakow

Land-locked Krakow may look an improbable place for a festival of sailor songs yet the city hosts Poland's biggest such event every February. It originated in 1981 and since 1996 has been named the International Sea Song Festival Shanties or actually, in Polish, the Miedzynarodowy Festiwal Piosenki Zeglarskiej "Shanties", popularly called 'shanty'.

February 23rd, Thursday.  
8:00 p.m. 
Poland’s pop acts Waldemar Mieczkowski Band, Mirek Kowal Kowalewski, Roman Tkaczyk, Marek Szurawski, and Piotr Zadrozny perform shanties and other sailor songs in Radio Krakow hall, 22 Juliusza Slowackiego avenue.

February 24th, Friday.

6:00 p.m. 
oland’s pop acts Marek Szurawski, Ryszard Muzaj, Arek Wlizlo, Andrzej Korycki, Dominika Zukowska, Zejman i Garkumpel, Mietek Folk Olsztyn, and Groms Plass perform shanties and other sailor songs in Kijow playhouse, 34 Krasinskiego avenue.

10:00 p.m. 
Concert Terra Incognita features Poland’s pop acts Trzecia Milosc, Joanna Knitter, Marta Kania, Klang, Andrzej Korycki, Dominika Zukowska, Marta Sliwa, The Nierobbers, Waldemar Mieczkowski Band, and Krzysztof Jurkiewicz performing shanties and other sailor songs in Kijow playhouse, 34 Krasinskiego avenue.

 

February 25th, Saturday.

2 p.m.
Open-air concert of shanties and other sailor songs takes place in the Rynek Glownu central square at 2 pm (free admission)..

5:00 p.m. 
Poland’s pop acts EKT Gdynia, Ryczace Dwudziestki, Perly i Lotry, Mechanicy Shanty,  Mietek Folk Olsztyn, and Groms Plass perform shanties and other sailor songs in Kijow playhouse, 34 Krasinskiego avenue.

10:00 p.m. 
Poland’s pop acts Banana Boat, Formacja, Klang, Andrzej Korycki & Dominika Zukowska, Marek Szurawski, Ryszard Muzaj, Ogolnopolski Szantowy Kwartet Skrzypcowy, and The Pioruners perform shanties and other sailor songs in Kijow playhouse, 34 Krasinskiego avenue.

February 26th, Sunday.

4:00 p.m.
